Cordless, pneumatic, hydraulic or manual?

The available power supply, required torque and workflow determine the appropriate drive. For battery and pneumatic torque wrenches, gearbox diameter, axial length, socket and reaction support also matter. Always check catalogue dimensions together with the original drawing.

Technical selection

The connection
determines the tool.

Four questions help with preliminary selection. We then check the installation arrangement together with you.

1. What torque is required?

The specification for your bolted joint is authoritative. Loosening may require a higher torque than the original tightening torque. Please therefore describe your task and operating conditions.

2. Square drive or cassette?

Square-drive torque wrenches use a suitable impact socket. Low-profile hydraulic torque wrenches engage directly with the nut and are suitable for restricted clearance and protruding threaded studs.

3. Which across-flats size and cassette group?

The cassette group must be considered for all TX and TXU models. Larger cassettes may have a different effective lever arm. Each across-flats range therefore has its own pressure-to-torque chart. The model name alone is not sufficient to determine the torque values.

4. How much space is actually available?

Check the available space along the bolt axis and around the sides of the nut. Also allow for tool length, reaction support, hoses and connections. A square-drive torque wrench additionally requires space for the fitted socket.

The terms “height”, “width” and “length” are only unambiguous when used with the relevant manufacturer's drawing. The radius dimension in the TX/TXU catalogue is not automatically the full outside radius measured from the bolt centre.

For a reliable fit check, send us the across-flats size, torque, clearance dimensions and photos. Request STEP/CAD files by specifying the model and exact cassette.
